“Architecture is the very mirror of life. You only have to cast your eyes on buildings to feel the presence of the past, the spirit of a place; they are the reflection of society”

In this assignment, we reinterpreted the layers of context that we were able to observe, experience, and record through field sketches, photos, and recordings. By learning to read our surroundings better, we to created new ways of
interpretation and analysis, rendering the invisible forces that influence our society, visible through our drawings, words, and models. In reading our surroundings, we are also able to develop deeper understandings for how the communities we design for may ultimately inhabit our spaces, helping us to practice empathy for those who will use the building and the neighborhood around it.
I wanted to focus on creating a form that responds to the language of
Bloomfield. I did not want the form to stand out but rather blend into the existing fabric. This project looks within. It's passive with some key design choices, like the folding facade that acknowledges the hospital in front of it, but decides to look away from it.
To me, Architecture is about fostering that community within the built environment and designing passively. This project aims to do that, it aims to create an experience of constant inspiration through art and creation to build a community
